How to Get Free Backlinks

Numeric examples of PageRanks in a small system.

The importance of generating backlinks to increase your page rank can not be over emphasized. However, once you start your backlink building campaign, you will find that it can be a difficult job if you don't know which direction to take.

One of the traditional way to get backlinks is to search the internet for sites with a high PR that offer the same type products or information as your own and then ask them for a reciprocal link. A reciprocal link is an link exchange between two website where each site agrees to place the others links on their sites. The problem of course, is when you're just starting out, you have no page rank so their interest in exchanging links with you is nill.

So you'll have to get a little creative in order to build some backlinks. Here are several ways to gain backlinks that are not dependent on the larges of others. Your own hard work is the only constraint.

  • One of the best ways to gain backlinks and to make the search engines very happy is to provide great content on your own website. Each post you write on your site has links back to your home page. Those links count! Bigger Sites have the advantage over little sites. So grow your website.

  • Web 2.0 social networking sites have bombarded the internet, but you may not realize it is a great source of backlinks. You can set up an account with several networks, submit your blog posts with a link to your website and voila!; you have created a quality backlink to your website.

  • Another great source of backlinks is the RSS feed of your site. You can use RSS feed to receive great exposure for your website or blog. Once you submit your website to an RSS Feed Directory your feed can be subscribe to by numerous readers, creating great exposure. And each of these feeds provides several backlinks to your site.

  • Write articles and submitting them to article directories. There are hundreds and hundreds of article directories out there. But, many of them never get indexed be the search engines, so don't waste your time on a lot of little article directories, just focus on the larger ones like Ezine Article, Go Articles, Isnare, and Article Feeder. There are a few others and you can experiment. If you don't get a backlink when you submit, don't submit with them again.

  • Go to blogs in your industry and read their blog posts and comment - using your blog url in your comment. Now I'm NOT saying you should SPAM!!! You should read the blog post, and your comment should add value to that blogger's page! If you can't do that, then please refrain from commenting.

The best advice I can give you is; Don't Give Up! Work everyday - consistently on your backlink efforts. Every Day! Set a goal of how many articles a day you'll write - how many posts you'll write - how many blog comments you'll make, and you'll get where you want to be, a lot sooner than you thought.

Until next time . . .

All the best,
Joyce
